Talk therapy has been proven to be helpful for a wide variety of people with various psychological diagnoses. The kinds of individuals and problems that can be helped by therapy include but are not limited to grief, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, trauma, chronic pain, interpersonal relationship conflict, self-harm, and suicidal ideation. One’s motivation to understand themselves and openness to the process is important for each client who strives to be helped by therapy. Also of crucial importance is the therapist’s ability to be empathetic, consistent, and trustworthy. Positive results can be expected when these client and therapist characteristics are achieved in a therapeutic relationship.

At Cognizant Mental Health, we conduct individual therapy with children, adolescents, and adults within a psychodynamic framework. Each client is unique and thus treatment plans are formed on an individualized basis to help each client become better acquainted, and more in touch with themselves. At the core of this work is a focus on the client’s unresolved or unprocessed issues and inner conflicts that they may not be consciously aware of. Focusing on each client’s unconscious aspects helps them develop a better understanding of their thoughts and feelings, and ‘why they do what they do’. By exploring unconscious thoughts and feelings, each client can begin to feel more in control, have higher self-esteem, make better decisions, and experience an increase in overall quality of life.

Couples therapy gives couples a chance to discuss their thoughts and feelings in new and more effective ways. At Cognizant Mental Health, we work with couples actively to work on improving communication, increasing intimacy and fostering care and compromise. We teach and model effective communication skills, developed within a safe environment without blame or judgment. We aim to help each member of the couple to understand both themselves and their partner more deeply in an effort to reduce conflict within the relationship and increase satisfaction. Cognizant Mental Health prides itself on utilizing the Gottman Method for individuals seeking a more hands-on, in-depth approach to relationships.

Family therapy is a type of psychotherapy that can help family members improve communication and resolve conflicts. Family therapy can help improve troubled relationships with partners, children, or other family members. It may address specific issues such as marital or financial problems, conflict between parents and children, the impact of substance abuse, or a mental illness on the entire family.

Medication isn’t suitable for everyone, but for some people with anxiety, depression, and other mental disorders, the results can be profound. Psychiatric medications can be very effective in treating mental illness. They can help to improve symptoms, and they can also help people to function better in their everyday lives. Most medications are convenient, affordable, and easily prescribed by a licensed provider. They can be taken from the comfort of your home with little to no disruption to your daily routine. We have partnered with Andrea Petty, a licensed and board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in Las Vegas, NV and California, to bring you a seamless and personalized experience regarding your med management needs. You may contact us for further details in regard to our services and whether medication management is right for you.
